According to the government’s statistics, Hong Kong has more than 10%  of total 7 million population are smokers.  However, relate to the HK law, smoking is prohibited from all indoor facilities in Hong Kong since the first of January in 2007.  All the HK smokers have been forced to smoke outdoor, which means they have to walk outside on the street to smoke and in the least time, because of the exterior environment does not allow them to stay,  Sometimes in the public area, this kind of situation happened and it brings some trouble to the smokers and also the people passing by.  We decided to design an open air refreshing umbrella, which is to be installed outside restaurants, shopping arcades and office buildings in order to filter second hand smoke.  The basic design is that when a smoker enters the smoking area, the umbrella will start up automatically, On sensing a smoker, the device will rise up and the umbrella will unfold automatically,  Once ll the smokers leave the umbrella, it will close automatically.
